Healthcare Directive Requirements in Reno, Nevada
Under Nevada law, healthcare directive documents may need specific language, signatures, witnesses, or notarization to take legal effect. Nevada's statutory advance health-care directive is at NRS 162A.855, added by 2023 Nev. Stat. 484. It is executed EITHER by acknowledgment before a notary public OR by the signatures of two adult witnesses — one route, not both (NRS 162A.790(2)). Nevada states exactly one witness restriction: if the principal resides in a nursing home, neither witness may be the home's owner, operator, or employee (NRS 162A.790(3)). It asks nothing else of the witnesses. NRS 162A.840 restricts the AGENT rather than the witnesses: the principal may not name their provider of health care, an employee of that provider, an operator of a health care facility, or an employee of a health care facility, unless that person is the principal's spouse, legal guardian, or next of kin.
